I saw and bought these group of SILK mini-paintings at an antique store in Shanghai during my visit in 2005. They are watercolor paintings and contain the traditional Chinese figures (Branches/ flowers, mountain/ sea/ sailboats, birds flying etc.) as subjects. They are thought to be made during the period 1932-1936 when the Chinese big cities were enjoying a period of wealth and stability, which had formed after many decades of hardship. The purpose of the paintings are, similar to the larger paintings are for viewing pleasure either alone or together with a few other similar paintings. The paintings do not have the artistís signature.
Dimensions are 75x175 millimeters (3x7 inches)
